The first batch of eggs went in the hatcher this morning, that means we have two more days until hatch, we hope. We are simulating mamma hen as she raises the humidity under her feathers by sweating. At this point, she will not leave the nest, either to eat or drink. She stops turning her eggs several times a day so the little chicks can now position themselves to peck through the air sack at the wide end of the egg which will sustain them while they *pip* through the egg shell to fresh air. The Great Designer is worthy of praise and adoration when looking at the complex workings of a chick hatching from an egg! Our heat has been uneven in our inky so I am hoping we get a decent hatching rate. This is our 2011-13 flock, a mix of Leghorns and Americaunas.
