Looks like a fun day! Seeing your animals reminded me of a question I've been wanting to ask a "chicken" person, maybe you can help. My dh and kids want chickens, I do not (you know who will end up taking care of them)but I have agreed to get 2 or 3 if we come up with a good housing idea, movable, cheap and easy to make and safe from the cats. Yor pen looks perfect. Do your chickens stay in there all of the time, do they need nesting boxes or something? I'm chicken clueless:)

Those are our broilers and only live 8wk in them until they are processed. Chickens are the best animals to start with and require very little care and concern. Once our children are 6 they can assume full responsibility of them, with reminders.
These tractors are easy to move(for someone over 10) and we do replace the tarp once a year for $10. For layers, yes, you'd just build nesting boxes into the other end and accessible from the outside.
Three chickens would be nothing to keep! I say give it a try, they are the ones responsible for all the other animals around here, they were just so much fun.
Yes, they stay in there all the time & ours are safe from coyotes.

Hi Jennifer! I had a question about your chicken tractor, too. Do you have wire mesh on the bottom as well (to keep predators from digging underneath?0 or have you not had any problem with that?

We do not. We've had a couple coyotes/dogs dig next to the tractors, but never able to dig under. I guess if they were hungry enough they could. We do have a lot of yotes 'round here and after about 5 years of use, we've never had problems with these.

We've done a bottom mesh for rabbits, but it makes it harder to move them. It takes two people/children to pick the works off the ground and move over. ;)
