...If your daughters came in the house excited that they found a mouse nest(or three or four in one) and were so excited at their new "pets"? What would you do? Would you dive into a unit study on mice? Nah, I don't feel like it. Would you happily fix up a home for your new little pets? Nope, not gonna happen at my house.

This is what my daughters found in the chicken coop today. There are about 30 baby mice of all different ages in a single nest. It was yuck. YUCK I tell you. I love critters, but this was nuts. Look closely, there are a LOT of them in the bucket and the worst part is my daughters TOUCHED them all as they picked them up. Ewe, ewe, ewe.
I told them Daddy would LOVE to see them when he gets home but he would have to dispose of them, so we discussed the most humane ways of doing so of which I will not go into detail. The children were very ..um...ingenious.
Now, get this. Daddy comes home and I take him out to see the mice, all the while expecting a shocked reaction. He ADMITTED he KNEW about this nest and chose to do nothing because he thought they were CUTE. Oh, the shame. I lost all respect for my hubby tonight.
Let's just say that if mice go to heaven, they are all in a much nicer place tonight.

Oh Paul, that's too funny, you thought they were cute?!
Just reading about this makes me want to to wash
my hands. Yuck.
Sorry Jen...I'm with Paul on this one. I think they are adorable too...as long as they are not in my house. I'll have a pet gerbil before I have a pet mouse. I have though had kindly placed gifts on my porch on occassion thanx to my sons cat....but on the flip I've saved several mice and moles from their demise....even saved a snake from the cat. Wellll, we thought the snake was dead and went to show it to the little kids and it "came alive" and took off in my house. I caught it in a bucket and put it in the woods at the end of our street. I'm a softy for critters as long as they know their place....OUTSIDE! lol Hugs, Jenni
MiceARE cute --- BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oop - forgot to add -- Your Pesky Neighbor!!
EWE EWE EWE!! I am of the mindset that those stay OUTSIDE! Although, if memory serves me correct, aren't you the one that owned rats?? Yep, that was you!
I love rats, I like mice. Domesticated mice...CLEAN mice. A couple years ago, a young mother died a half mile down the road from us by contracting a disease from the mice feces in her mothers home? This is why I hate farm mice. It was a very sad story. So really, I love any clean animal as a pets, but filthy mice?...no way.
WOW - that is a lot of mice! First frogs, then mice...what's next?! :)
